Help with external node import - how to include icons and other support libs 03.22.2017 05:15 AM
I am trying to import an external node that implements several support libs (e.g. folders with additional files (images in this case) within. Thus, the node structure is / (root) and /icons (holding additional node visualization icons), etc. The import function of Flow seems to support only a one-dimensional (flat) node hierarchy. Does that mean that I have to re-write my node for a flat file hierarchy, or is there an ability to more naturally import a Node-Red (spec'd) node?

Flow does allow adding ‘full tree’, i.e. as many folders and sub folders as you like – you just need to add the ‘/’ yourself, meaning there is no UI to ‘add folder’. This is modeled after Git behavior that many developers are familiar with. As for the second suggestion, we like to do it as well for Flow, meaning allowing an easy way to upload a new node like Node RED 0.16 is offering, but it is more complex for Flow as we need to specifically define the input and output endpoints, something node-red on a local machine ‘do not care about’. We have not ‘given up’ on this (good) idea, but need to ensure we have solid design before we do anything on this.
