They Love It, They Love it Not – Your App That !s
Are downloads the most reliable indicator that people love your app? How about store ratings, or reviews? Do any of these really tell you how or why customers like your app?
Measuring how your app is doing is a task growing more complex each day. That’s why we were intrigued to learn more about the Apptentive Love Index, a new way to look at the overall level of customer experience with your iOS or Android app. The Apptentive Love Index provides a comprehensive look at a variety of mobile app metrics to compute a “Love Score” that slots your app into its overall place in the “Love Index.” It is designed to help companies begin to understand the mobile customer experience for their applications and compare themselves to their competitors.
They’ve done some analysis of the more than 2.3 million apps available on the iOS and Android stores and found that while the app ecosystem seems crowded on the surface, apps with more than 50 reviews make up only 6% of the total ecosystem on those two stores. Apptentive says that this can mean two things:
- A quality app loved by even a small group of customers can quickly rise past more than 90% of the apps in the market
- It is hard to build a large and vocal customer base to set your app apart. Less than 1 in 10 are able to do it.
We see this as the tip of a growing trend where people are valuing not only the app functionality itself (the “what” it does) but also the overall experience with the app and ecosystem around it (the “how” the app does it). Measuring and improving this experience over time can only lead to better apps and better services that, in turn, can lead to your app standing out above the field.
