The Future of Mobile – Charlie Kindel Proclaims “Apps To Be Dead!”
Yes, Charlie Kindel gave a talk yesterday on “The Future of Mobile” and he proclaimed “apps to be dead.” Awesome way to capture the attention of your audience. If you’ve read Charlie’s blog before, you know that he has some pretty strong thoughts about how the mobile industry works and this talk is no different.
His goal with this particular presentation was to “help people understand the deeper structure of the mobile ecosystem and what is really going on between Apple, Google, Samsung, Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook, the carriers, developers, and consumers.” And he does a great job of this by painting a farily black and white picture of the wireless industry as a whole. If you are new to this industry, make sure to watch the video as it is a fast way to come up to speed with competitive issues that keep the executives up at night.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of his talk was that he encouraged developers to think about the apps business as one about building an experience for the consumer of your app across multiple devices as opposed to a business that is simply about building mobile apps. He also goes on to talk about the importantance of selling through channels as a way to boost you “app sales” and this is another very important understanding that I have seen some developers lack.
