Personal Cloud and Developers’ Opportunities
On July 28, Alibaba, in China, introduced the smart phone K-Touch W700. It will be released in September 2011. The significance of the mobile phone is that it is Cloud powered with Aliyun OS, a new mobile Operating System. “Yun” is the Chinese pronunciation for “Cloud”.
According to Alibaba, Aliyun OS makes use of Cloud based services, including e-mail, internet search, weather updates, GPS and mapping applications. All users will be provided 100GB free storage for their contact information, call logs, text messages, notes and photos accessible from both PCs and handsets.
It looks like personal Cloud and digital life are seen as “in demand”. What does this mean to the developers?
Apps that can help people manage their digital life in the Cloud will be in demand!
For example, as a consumer, I want an app to upload my blogs from WordPress to my personal Cloud and I can search them using key words with my phone. I want an app to scan my photos in the Cloud and take my request to download specific photos to my facebook page. I want an app to keep track of my twitter followers’ feedback and keep me posted.
What will developers need in order to develop such apps successfully? APIs? App stores? Hosting services? Share your thoughts with us!
