Making HTML5 Mobile Web Gaming Apps
As a prep for the upcoming gaming focused Mobile App Hackathon in Seattle, this blog serves as a running start with a number of good development resources to get your mobile gaming up and running as quickly as possible. While most games are 2D or 3D games with insane graphics, game play and seemingly endless maps, I would encourage you to think outside of the box when you are pondering what kind of game to create over the weekend. Check out the following interesting posts from Corona/PubNub about a multiplayer poker game, here and here.
In fact, I would highly encourage the use of pubnub.com or weboolu.com to make your next multiplayer game. A previous AT&T Mobile App Hackathon winner, FourCorners (http://four-corners.herokuapp.com/), was one that took the room by storm because the players were so into the game. FourCorners presents an interesting new interactive model involving mobile phones while also doubling as a physically engaging game. Additionally, remember to make use of phonegap.com and the accelerometer to make your phone react more like a Wii controller.
Here is a short list of HTML5 game engines along with a list of native game engines that should help you along your development path. Also, don’t forget about saving state across multiple devices as well as HTML5 sound (check out buzz.js and soundJS) and multi channel sound.
