Perhaps the single most important take away from this presentation is learning the idea of shipping a “quantum of product.” So what is this quantum of a product? As Garry defines it: “a discrete, indivisible manifestation of a product that solves a problem that people have.”
Easy to do, hard to implement you say? Garry is a guy that can walk the walk and talk the talk. If you check out his website at www.posterous.com, you’ll see that his site, www.postereous.com, embodies this very idea of “quantum of a product” in the sign-in process that has survived since inception of the website to this day. If you also look at slides 11 and 12, you will see Amazon.com as well as Facebook.com in their initial revisions.
Get Your Product Out The Door! As long as your product’s basic idea has been packaged into an app, get your application into the hands of your customers and have them play with your product. Understand your customer’s angst and/or what they love about your product and how you can make your application better. Like Garry says “Be thankful that your customers are doing you a favor!”
