AT&T Expands M2M Portfolio with New Capabilities
At the AT&T Developer Summit, a few of the developers asked me about Machine to Machine (M2M) application development. They were wondering what ATT was offering so that they could get their apps out easily.
In the M2M world, devices “talk” to each other over wired or wireless connections without human intervention. It’s a fast growing field in the mobile space. In 2010, pan-Western European mobile service providers launched new initiatives in the area of M2M, making new efforts to facilitate the mobilization of business processes . Garner Hype Cycle documents technology trends showed that M2M communication was on the rise in the emerging Chinese information and communication technology industry .
Of the 1,100 total connected non-stocked devices that are approved for use on the AT&T network, over 450 are M2M devices. AT&T has been offering M2M solutions to our customers. For example, AT&T is helping modernize the nation’s electric grid by combining the same broadband and wireless communication technology we use to connect people with their world every day with additional virtual networking and security features. Smart grids depend on two-way communications between virtually all devices producing, distributing and consuming electricity.
Today, AT&T announced four new relationships with companies that specialize in M2M technology. They are Axeda, ILS Technology, SensorLogic and Sierra Wireless. These partnerships offer our developers more options for development, integration and management of M2M solution. AT&T consultants work closely with customers to identify the right solution based on industry focus and technical requirements.
