Are You Ready For a Hackathon?
From the moment you walk in Friday night at 6PM, you will be surrounded by like-minded developers and others interested in mobile application development; enjoying the support of senior developers with in depth knowledge of multiple major mobile platforms. We’ve steped up the event a notch with dinner goodies from top Yelp rated restaurants spanning Italian, Thai and American flavors and even exotic feasts from Australia with their tasty meat pies. This is your opportunity to network with as many developers as possible, while enjoying some great local restaurants.
As for event timing, promptly at 7PM, guest speakers will give their lightning talks that focus on various types of bleeding edge mobile application development technologies. These talks are intended to be fast paced demos that show you what is possible with as few lines of code as possible. Coding samples are available online via GitHub and other corporate websites. Look further down for links.
Immediately following the lightening talks, everyone will have 1 minute to pitch an idea. We encourage the rapid clustering of like-minded developers so that everyone can get to coding as fast as possible. Talk to as many developers as possible with the intent of gathering a group quickly. The longer that you wait, the higher the probability that you will be the odd person out. From here, your only goal is to get working code. Preferably coding working on your mobile phone as opposed to your simulator, but we will accept either submission. As AT&T Mobile App Hackathons are now two and three day events, the exact end date will vary from event to event.
Final presentations will occur on the last day and teams are encouraged to have their app working on their phone so that other developers (and the judging panel) can see the live app in action. Extra kudos to teams that can successfully upload their app to an app store for download or have an interactive web component.
App judging will be split amongst the sponsors who will be judging based upon creativity, uniqueness, and complexity. Please note that only applications developed at the event will be considered for the prizes, but everyone is encouraged to present, as you never know who might be interested in your idea or skills.
Most importantly, please come prepared with a laptop that has the necessary software preloaded (Notepad++, Textwrangler, NodeJS, Riak, MongoDB, XAMPP, Phonegap, Sencha, etc) so that you are ready to rock without having to spend time downloading your basic tools. Check out this blog to find out more about the tools that can help you get a running start.
