DeviceAnywhere Virtual Lab
DeviceAnywhere.com, Mobile Complete's market leading remote access platform, allows content providers to remotely install their applications, download content over-the-air, perform development, porting, testing and operational activities, as well as validate the compatibility of their application content with both the handset as well as with AT&T's wireless network.
Anything you can do with a device in your hand, you can do with the handsets in DeviceAnywhereżin real-time. All content providers are able to use the service; developers of video and games will be able to capture every frame and every pixel, wallpaper and WAP providers will be able to see exactly how their images or sites render, and developers for ringtones and streaming audio will be able to hear their audio quality straight from the device.
DeviceAnywhere.com currently offers over 100 AT&T handsets for developers to test their content and applications, including the latest devices from Apple, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, and Sony-Ericsson.
For a limited time, devCentral members can try out the service for 5 hours for free. Sign in to learn more.
DeviceAnywhere 4.2 Makes Some Great Changes
In the recent update to version 4.2, DeviceAnywhere has made some cool changes to its service. Here's a quick overview of the new and changed features. Go to DeviceAnywhere for more details or to get a FREE 5-HOUR TRIAL (if you are not on DeviceAnywhere yet).
Cleanup Script Availability
Did you know that when you are finished using a device on DeviceAnywhere, a cleanup script is
executed to reset the device to default settings and wipe the device clean by clearing the
cache, deleting Inbox messages, and so on? DeviceAnywhere has always had this feature; however,
in version 4.2 you can run the cleanup script yourself at any time, giving you the flexibility
to wipe the devices at your discretion.
DeviceAnywhere Pro Trial Example Scripts and Documentation
The new DeviceAnywhere Pro Trial includes access to a dedicated trial package, containing a
dozen devices and over 40 example scripts and resources that help you quickly learn about
DeviceAnywhere Pro functionality. You can get 5 hours of free device time and two weeks to try
it out. New documentation, "DeviceAnywhere ProżBest Practices," describes the
examples provided. You can sign up for the DeviceAnywhere Pro Trial by contacting Sales@deviceanywhere.com.
Working With More Than Two Devices at Once
Device Access now includes a Device window that enables you to visually confirm the devices
that you are working with. Through the Device window you can acquire and manage an unlimited
number of devices. You can control the number of devices viewed at any one time through an
option in the File menu. A maximum of five devices can be displayed at one time.
DeviceAnywhere Studio Load-Time Improvement
DeviceAnywhere Studio supports a vastly improved loading time. Your actual loading time will
depend on a number of parameters, such as your network connection, but our timed results for
loading DeviceAnywhere Studio 4.2 averaged about 1 minute. (Our approach to improved loading
time was to have DeviceAnywhere Studio available before all devices were loaded; therefore,
depending on how many packages and devices that you have access to, not all devices may be
available immediately upon launch.)
Increased Video Buffer
DeviceAnywhere Studio now stores more of your past device activityżup to 15 minutes of device
screen video. The Video editor has been revamped to make it easier for you to select and load
frames.
Improved Text Recognition for DeviceAnywhere Pro
The WaitText command, which utilizes Abbyy FineReader OCR technology, supports new settings for
an improved text extraction capability. A new checkbox in the WaitText Properties screen
enables you to transform the reference image before extraction in two ways: 1) you can adjust
the contrast by moving the slider bar; and 2) you can transform the reference image to black
and white, then sample the background color as an aid to text extraction.
Stay tuned for future updates to DeviceAnywhere software and check back for monthly tips to help you utilize the DeviceAnywhere service more easily and efficiently.
