Wholesale Applications Community

The Wholesale Applications Community (WAC) is an open global alliance and a non-profit organization founded by the world's leading mobile network carriers, device manufacturers, and technology companies. It was formed to simplify the app development and distribution processes for the developers.

WAC built a centralized application ingestion framework that allows developers to submit applications once and idistribute them globally via a WAC member operator and OEM managed storefronts.

WAC provides the following:

  • Standard definitions for maximum compatibility
  • Common testing program to reduce testing costs and provide high quality apps
  • Centralized communication with a single submission point for apps
  • Unified settlement process for developers
WAC Payment APIs

The WAC Payment API delivers a simple, easy-to-use mobile payment experience for your customers across both fixed and mobile networks. Furthermore it is unified across mobile devices, tablets and computers. Experience has shown that operator billing has 2 to 3 times higher conversion than debit and credit cards. With just a few clicks, the mobile payment experience can drive higher conversions than credit card and Premium SMS and gives access to users who may not have or want to use credit cards. Check out Payment API FAQ.

The WAC Android SDK 1.0.1 was released on February, 2012. It makes the process of integrating with WAC¿s payment services easy. This software is intended for use by Android application developers. Download the SDK. The Quick Start Guide will get you up and running; more detailed documentation is available in the Developer Guide. You can use the Sandbox for testing and check out the Payment API working in the Sample Application.

WAC SDK

WAC 2.0 SDK (Waikiki) was commercially launched in February 2011. It allows you to create one application that can be used on different handsets and operating systems.

It includes:

  • HTML5 web apps with rich multi-media capabilities based on the W3C widget packaging specification
  • Increased set of mobile specific functionality including file system, calendar and orientation
  • Improved security privacy
Quick-start guide for developers
  • Use Tutorials to learn how to download WAC SDK, set up WAC 2.0 emulator, create apps within an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and submit your apps.
  • Refer to device status APIs to make sure that your app works for different mobile devices.
  • Join the Developer Forums in order to obtain developer community support.

Legal: Base legal requirements and documents are managed via WAC. For developers who are interested in distributing their apps through AT&T, there is a separate addendum that states: "Developers must follow AT&T content guidelines". For details on those guidelines, please see the AT&T Mobility Content Standards & Guidelines..
